چکیده

We present a formalization of the Löbner-Barsalou frame theory (LBFT) in Dependence Logic with explicit strategies. In its present formalization, [?], frames are de ned as a particular kind of typed feature structures. On this approach, the semantic value of a lexical item is reduced to its contribution to the truth conditions of sentences in which it occurs. This reduction does neither account for dynamic phenomena nor for results from neuroscience which show that meaning cannot be reduced to truth conditions. In order to overcome these shortcomings, we develop a dynamic frame theory which is based both on Dependence Logic [?] and Dynamic Epistemic Logic ([?]). The semantic phenomenon with respect to which this framework is tested are numerical expressions like `two' or `at least two'. They are interpreted as strategies which change the input information state to which they are applied.

Dependencies, semantic constraints and conceptual closeness in a dynamic frame theory

Results from psycholinguistics and neuroscience, in particular based on the N400, provide ample evidence that semantic relations between lexical items play an important and prominent role during the (semantic) processing of sentences in the brain. For example, although neither John squeezed an orange nor John squeezed an apple contain a semantic anomaly, they are processed differently in the br...

A general approach to linguistic approximation and its application in frame of fuzzy logic deduction

‎This paper deals with one problem that needs to be addressed in the emerging field known under the name computing with perceptions‎. ‎It is the problem of describing‎, ‎approximately‎, ‎a given fuzzy set in natural‎ ‎language‎. ‎This problem has lately been referred to as the problem of retranslation‎. ‎An approaches to ‎dealing with the retranslation problem is discussed in the paper‎, ‎that ...

A Critical Examination of Ibn-Sina’s Theory of the Conditional Syllogism

This paper will examine Ibn Sina’s theory of the Conditional Syllogism from a purely logical point of view, and will lay bare the principles he adopted for founding his theory, and the reason why the newly introduced part of his logic remained undeveloped and eventually was removed from the texts of logic in the later Islamic tradition. As a preliminary discussion, this paper briefly examines I...

On Dependence Logic

The goal of dependence logic is to establish a basic theory of dependence and independence underlying such seemingly unrelated subjects as causality, random variables, bound variables in logic, database theory, the theory of social choice, and even quantum physics. There is an avalanche of new results in this field demonstrating remarkable convergence. The concepts of (in)dependence in the diff...

Dependence logic with a majority quantifier

We study the extension of dependence logic D by a majority quantifier M over finite structures. Dependence logic [19] extends first-order logic by dependence atomic formulas =(t1, . . . , tn) the intuitive meaning of which is that the value of the term tn is completely determined by the values of t1, . . . , tn−1. While in first-order logic the order of quantifiers solely determines the depende...
